  1. ³¼RACISM IN GERMANY¼³

  4. You have for sure heard about  the  la-
  5. test violent  attacks  against  persons 
  6. seeking for  asylum in Germany. And now 
  7. there are loads of  people  from  other 
  8. countries, watching those things on the 
  9. TV. It's   quite  understandable,  that 
  10. they might  think, that Germany is once 
  11. again beginning to develop a 'Deutsches 
  12. Reich' with a leader  as  Hitler was in 
  13. the Third Reich. Some even  thought  of 
  14. that after the uniting of Germany. They 
  15. thought, the reason for that  would  be
  16. getting a bigger and more powerful Ger-
  17. many. That's absolutely  not  true! But 
  18. there are some things to explain and we 
  19. hope to be able to convince  you of the 
  20. fact, that something like a Third Reich 
  21. CANT ever happen again here in Germany.

  23. It all  started  with  uniting  of  the 
  24. eastern and western part of  Germany  a 
  25. couple of years ago. Everyone  was hap-
  26. py. Thousands of  relatives  from  both 
  27. parts saw each other for the first time 
  28. after  40  years. The  people from East 
  29. Germany were looking  forward to a bet-
  30. ter future. They  were  always  talking 
  31. about  the 'golden  west'. They  always 
  32. wished  to live there. Now it was  pos-
  33. sible for each  of  them. But  after  a 
  34. short time they  were disappointed. All 
  35. those people, which moved to West  Ger-
  36. many didn't get a  job,  because  their 
  37. education was too  low  to  get  a  one 
  38. there. They  had   mostly   craftsman's 
  39. education, which they could  have  used 
  40. in the GDR, but in the  united  Germany 
  41. it  was  useless. Many  moved  back  to 
  42. where  they  came  from. But there, the 
  43. situation  wasn't  better  then!   Many 
  44. firms and factories had to close  down, 
  45. coz the sudden change into  market eco-
  46. nomy was too hard for them. So an enor-
  47. mous unemployment  was  spread  in  the 
  48. east.
  49. The reasons  were searched. It was pro-
  50. bably the incompetence of several poli-
  51. ticians. All in all  the  unity  wasn't 
  52. well  planned  at  all. Everything went 
  53. much too fast. Others believed in other 
  54. reasons. And that's the point where ra-
  55. cism started. Many of these  unemployed
  56. people  had   the   opinion,  that  the  
  57. foreigners who are living there are the 
  58. real reason for  that misery. "They are 
  59. stealing us all the employment!!", they 
  60. said and back in 1991 the first actions 
  61. against foreigners started in a village 
  62. called 'Hoyerswerda'. Skin heads burned 
  63. their houses, smashed  the  windows and
  64. so on. Many other citizens  clapped and 
  65. they considered the skins  as  'heroes' 
  66. or something like  that. The police was 
  67. absolutely  not  able to stop those ac-
  68. tions. Some weeks ago again a huge wave 
  69. of racism has started  in  the  eastern  
  70. part of Germany. This  time the foreig-
  71. ners in citys like  Rostock, Erfurt  or
  72. Eisenhuettenstadt  were  the   victims.
  73. But   all  these  attacks  against  the 
  74. foreigners are  senseless!! That's what
  75. most of the attacking  guys  don't want 
  76. to understand. They should  think about 
  77. the places, where the foreign   workers 
  78. are employed! They are mainly  cleaning 
  79. ladies, garbage  collectors  or restau-
  80. rant owners. Well, I  don't think, that 
  81. they   want  to  have  such  jobs  like 
  82. foreign  workers  anyway. So what's the 
  83. reason for those  attacks?! The foreig-
  84. ners aren't the reason for that misery. 
  85. The politicians  failed  in  organizing 
  86. the unity in the right way - THAT'S the 
  87. reason!
  88. So  all  you  readers, we hope you have 
  89. noticed, that there's  nothing  like  a 
  90. Third Reich developing in Germany. It's 
  91. just  some  disappointed  guys  in  the 
  92. eastern  parts  of  Germany,  which are 
  93. searching the reason for their unemploy
  94. ment in some helpless foreign  workers, 
  95. those who haven't anything  to  do with 
  96. that kind of misery. It has  nothing to 
  97. do with any political  organization. In 
  98. opposite! Of course! From  time to time 
  99. there are attacks against foreigners in 
  100. the west part of Germany as well - qui-
  101. te   sad  in  fact!  But  unfortunately 
  102. that's  just  normal and there are such 
  103. things in France, in Belgium, in  Scan-
  104. dinavia and anywhere  else  in  Europe! 
  105. The people living in Germany don't EVER 
  106. want  something   like  the Third Reich 
  107. once  again. They  won't be taken in by
  108. someone  to  be  compared  with  Hitler 
  109. again.
